Hi, I'm Geoffrey
Geoffrey Short
I have been shooting production stills for feature films, television series, documentaries and TVCs for over 30 years.
Using silent cameras and a thorough understanding of the on-set dynamics of film-making, I enjoy creating high quality still photographs without disrupting the flow of production.
My passion is to capture compelling images of the peak moments of drama, where all the production values come together in a single frame.
I also understand that producers need a wide range of stills assets, so I am always looking for good behind the scenes images that show the scale of the production, background plates, props and textures. Not everything can be captured while the film cameras are rolling, so I also do directed stills, from the lightning fast “stills take” on set, to more controlled pull-aside portraits, through to full gallery shoots.
Highlights from Geoffrey
Recent highlights have been the horror feature “M3GAN”, getting the cover of Fangoria Magazine and taking a world-wide box office of over 10 times its budget, and working with “Outlander” stars Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish on season 2 of their travel doco “Men in Kilts”. After years of working on scripted drama, I enjoyed the challenge of the unpredictable live shoot, with no script, no rehearsals and no second takes.
I am looking forward to the release of the feature film “Bookworm”, starring the wonderful Elijah Wood and remarkable newcomer Nell Fisher. Shot in the South Island of New Zealand, involving much lugging of gear up mountains, every day was leg day.

The Gone S1
Geoff shot both unit stills and gallery imagery on THE GONE season 1, an Irish/NZ co-production that was filmed on location in Auckland and Te Aroha, New Zealand.
Having worked with Geoff on a number of film and television projects over many years (Don’t Make Me Go, Mystic, The Gone & Dark City: The Cleaner to name a few), I can say that he is always great to work with: a consummate professional with a keen eye who understands the delicate balance required of a stills photographer.

I LOVED the stills for Dark City
I LOVED the stills for Dark City – such a good range of shots, expressions and moods, a variety of tone and scope that offered me so many options. I’ve always prized good stills, they make my job both easier and more interesting, and – key art aside – good stills will elevate any campaign. It’s a tricky balance to communicate the world of the film, navigate the set and the personalities there, and still find time to seek out opportunities to capture beauty when you find it – a good unit photographer is highly prized for good reason. I particularly love photographers who will shoot empty sets, details, props, background elements and full-length shots of the cast – you would be amazed how often that doesn’t happen. But it was a joy to go through Geoff’s stills and so many ideas bloomed from them I could still be producing Dark City artwork to this day.
