Hi, I'm Larry

Larry Horricks

Delivering compelling photography is my aim on every project, and a large measure in doing so, is the ability to navigate the unique challenges of a working film set. Access is everything, and it can only be gained through trust and mutual respect. Without this, there can be no compelling imagery.

Apart from my photographic vision, I bring 30+ years experience to meeting these challenges.

My Bio

My professional career began upon completion of studies at Brooks Institute of Photography in Santa Barbara, California. From there I entered into the world of Photojournalism and Editorial photography, working freelance for a variety of international news agencies and periodicals. An assignments led to a staff job for Cinema-Arts magazine in Canada, and during my time there I found myself on films sets all over Canada and abroad, thus my introduction into of the wold of the Unit Stills Photographer.

I’m based in Prague for many years, but work all over Europe and abroad…There is a Potential for me to work local in Budapest and the UK.

Highlights from Larry

Hands down…on so many levels…the highlight of my career so far, was photographing on the feature film “Minamata”. To photograph a film about one the most iconic photographers of all time (W. Eugene Smith)…a photographer who was for me a profound visual mentor, and influence on my style of shooting, was simply the opportunity of a lifetime. The story of Minamata and the photographs that told that story, in many ways was the crucible to which environmental reportage would follow: Bhopal,Chernobyl,Hanford,Exon Valdez and 100’s more. To work on films that have a social message are always the most rewarding for me. To meet Aileen Mioko Smith and talk about her husbands work and the events of Minamata…for her to be moved by the work I was shooting, is as rewarding as this work gets.

There are some things in life that you feel like your work was moving towards…this for me was Minamata.
