Darrin Zammit Lupi
Being an avid film-buff and owning a massive movie collection, it was a no-brainer that I should branch into unit stills photography once I switched to a mirrorless camera system. My taste in films covers several genres – I’m equally happy watching a Marvels or Bond film as I am a Tarkovsky or Kurosawa masterpiece. I feel more at home on a film set than anywhere else I’ve ever worked.
Highlights from Darrin
I’ve worked on three major productions – Last Breath, season 3 of The Madame Blanc Mysteries and Borderline, all slated for release in 2024 – and one short to date. I got started by getting thrown into the deep end when I was asked to replace the stills photographer for a few days – my stint on “Last Breath” was memorable, finding myself working with A-lister icons like Woody Harrelson and Simu Liu. None of the film unit stills have been released so far, apart from those from the short and a couple from Madame Blanc Mysteries.

Madame Blanc Mysteries
As well as having an eye for a beautiful shot, Darrin’s love of film and wanting to know the story of the show captures the essence of the scenes in his images. Footlights – Unit Stills Photographer
A truly exceptional photographer who comes on set with a pre understanding of what the narrative of the film is about. He then adds his artistic eye to help capture the creative process whilst still keeping in line with the soul of the film. His play with light and different angels helps to create a highly interesting perspective.
Other than being extremely professional, he is also a pleasure to have on set. He is focused, warm natured and always ready to help.
I wholeheartedly recommend him, as to me, he is the best that Malta has to offer!
