Hi, I'm Kirsty
Kirsty Griffin
I Have been working on and off film sets for almost 35 years initially in the art department – my last job was Art Director on Xena Warrior Princess. I have always taken photographs and I really love the film industry, being onset in particular – being part of the collective creative force behind all films and working alongside the very clever people involved.
I took a couple of years off and went to New York to study photojournalism and Documentary photography at the International Centre of Photography – It was fantastic and I feel I now approach film stills more as storytelling – distilling the scene or the character into a readable image. Movement must be converted to stillness – a film still has a timeframe all its own. I find it to be such a generous art form.

Highlights from Kirsty
Working on Jane Campions ‘The Power Of The Dog’ was a highlight of my career. The Cast were great Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons and Kodi Smit – McPhee. The stills resulted in a 4 page spread in Vanity Fair and a 300 page book published by Assouline. Jane was great, she had such faith in her handpicked crew that we were given the room to do our jobs to the best of our ability and working onset in an environment like that inspires such a feeling of collaboration that you really want to give it your all. Other highlights include working on New Zealand feature films. My first feature film was Nikki Caro’s ‘Whale Rider’ it was a real privilege to get that gig at that stage of my career – the film went on to become one of New Zealand’s greatest films.
I always say if we don’t tell our stories who will?
