Hi, I'm James

James Loxley

… or Lox/Loxley as I’m more frequently called. Born a Brummie but primarily based out of London via stints in Paris, New York and Los Angeles. A perpetual freelance creative that enjoys nothing more than composing and capturing stories.
My most recent work includes unit stills for BONUS TRACK (Erebus Pictures and SKY), Behind the scenes photography for MIDAS MAN (StudioPow and Trevor Beattie Films – ongoing) and unit stills for short film TO HAVE AND TO HOLD (WarnerMedia OneFifty). Feel free to reach out if you would like to know more or see if I am available to work with your team!

My Bio

Having been a freelance senior Art Director and Writer in Advertising for nearly 20 years, I am no stranger to productions of all sizes and the incredible teams needed to bring projects to life.
I studied photography back in the day and am never without a camera. In recent years I have transitioned to shooting photography for Film and TV, portraits, BTS at Fashion Weeks, for model agencies and brands. My reportage style and art direction eye is perfectly suited to the set stills and behind the scenes world, or as renowned stills photographer Hopper Stone put it – “Diet photojournalism”.
Recently a director said to me “I don’t know how you managed to get the shots you did as you were practically invisible on set!” which I thought was a great compliment.

Highlights from James

I feel like each production or shoot I work on is a highlight however I especially get a kick out of my work being published or syndicated. Recently some of my work was in Variety, Deadline, New York Post, Vogue and NME amongst others.
Before working on the short film To Have and To Hold, I was lucky enough to do a zoom call with the Director & Writer, where she shared her vision and mood for the film. I found this incredibly rewarding as I was able to bring my own ideas to the table for shots and suggest poster ideas too. I know this isn’t often the standard, but I found it productive and felt part of the team before I even got on set.
Shooting in Budapest on ‘Archive’ was a treat too, as I love to travel with work, even if we were in sub-zero temperatures more often than not.
